variety, spice, etc

There’s no such thing as an ordinary week for a small, indie publisher. Every time we log onto the laptop and check our emails, we find something unexpected and (occasionally) wonderful. It can be a manuscript sent in by a hopeful author, or a CV from someone looking for work as a proofreader (we’re getting a lot of those at the moment, and while we don’t have any opportunities for you, we wish you all the very best in finding work somewhere).

Most weeks, there’ll be a request from the wholesalers for copies of one or more of our titles (we like those) and from time to time there’s a request from a venue for a bulk order of one of our books, almost always because one of our authors is doing a talk there. It’ll come as no surprise that those emails rank among our favourites. This week, more than twenty copies of A Marvellous Party have been posted out to a venue in London where Ian Elmslie is speaking.

Pipping them all to first place this week, however, was the email from someone in Manchester wanting a copy of City Baby posted out to them so they could read it on the plane to Australia where they’d be visiting family and… seeing GBH play live in Sydney. Thirty minutes later, after a quick phone call and a natter, their book was on its way. Top-quality in-flight entertainment, guaranteed, we’d say.
